Ten Years Later, Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ Is Still Misunderstood

Lady Gaga’s third studio album, ARTPOP, was released ten years ago today (November 6) to mixed reviews from critics and fans.

With its varied mix of electronic sounds and honest and sometimes absurdist exploration of celebrity, sex, and technology, most condemned the album for its lack of thematic consistency and shoddy execution.

One reviewer called it “dry and ridiculous, vaguely utopian but overly confident in the liberating power of technology.” Another said it’s “hard not to feel underwhelmed.”

Some saw it as a call to reconnect with what is holy and real, while others were more interested in the hype surrounding it.

What do you think of Gaga’s “ARTPOP” album? What did you like and dislike about it?
