Olivia Rodrigo has shared new insight into a theme that has appeared throughout much of her music: jealousy. Speaking about her songwriting process, the singer explained that feelings of comparison and insecurity have been part of her life since she was young.
Rodrigo said those emotions were shaped in part by her experience as a child actor, where competition for roles often created pressure and uncertainty. She noted that the fear of being replaced and constantly measuring herself against others influenced the way she viewed relationships and success.
Those experiences later became material for several of her songs. Across multiple albums, Rodrigo has explored topics such as envy, self-doubt, and the complicated emotions that can exist within friendships. Rather than avoiding those feelings, she has often chosen to address them directly in her lyrics.
At the same time, Rodrigo said her outlook has changed over the years. She emphasized the value of female friendships and the support that women can offer one another. That perspective has also been reflected in some of her recent projects aimed at supporting women and girls.
